Wiarton flagstone stepping stones and a Wiarton stone pad in an Etobicoke front yard surrounded by lush, well‑designed plantings.

ThistleTowN, Etobicoke

This charming century‑old home needed a clean, modern refresh to improve curb appeal along a busy main road. The homeowner had started extending the driveway with gravel but hadn’t been able to complete the project. We stepped in to finish the work properly and create a front yard that blends beauty, function, and long‑lasting materials.

Before & Goals

The front yard was partially prepped but unfinished — the gravel extension wasn’t complete, the edges lacked structure, and the entry area needed a defined space. The goal was to:

  • Finish the driveway extension properly

  • Add a small flagstone pad and pathway

  • Introduce clean edging

  • Add planting for colour and softness

  • Keep the look natural and timeless to match the century home

What We Built

We used all Canadian natural limestone to keep the look authentic and durable:

  • Wiarton flagstone - stepping stones + small patio pad

  • Ebel Pearl limestone edging - clean containment for the flagstone pad

  • 3/4” gravel - driveway extension

  • Crush run + limestone screenings - base preparation

  • Filter cloth - under all gravel and base layers for stability

These materials blend perfectly with older homes and hold up extremely well in GTA weather.

How We Built It

We began by installing permeable filter cloth to stabilize the base and prevent mixing with the soil. The driveway extension was completed using 3/4” gravel, compacted in layers for strength. For the flagstone pad and stepping stones, we built a proper base using crush run and limestone screenings, ensuring clean lines and tight joints. Ebel Pearl limestone edging was added to contain the pad and give the space a finished look. To complete the transformation, we planted a mix of trees, shrubs, and perennials, along with a tropical planter to bring colour and life to the front entry.

Final Result

The front yard now feels intentional, clean, and welcoming. The natural limestone ties in beautifully with the character of the century‑old home, while the planting adds softness and curb appeal. The homeowner’s original vision was completed, and elevated. With proper preparation, durable materials, and a cohesive design.
