New Unilock Copthorne Burgundy Red herringbone walkway with a Basalt border installed at a red‑brick home in The Beaches, Toronto.

THE BEACHES, TORONTO

This Beaches homeowner wanted to update their front path with something that felt classic and matched the warm tones of their red brick home. The existing concrete walkway wasn’t damaged, but it felt plain and didn’t add much character. They chose Unilock Copthorne in Burgundy Red laid in a herringbone pattern, paired with a Basalt border for contrast. The combination created a timeless, cobblestone‑inspired entrance that suits the house perfectly.

Before and Goals

Before we started, the front path was a simple concrete walkway that no longer matched the look the homeowner wanted. The goal was to create a more traditional, textured path that complemented the red brick exterior and added curb appeal without changing the layout of the garden beds.

The homeowner wanted:

  • A classic herringbone walkway

  • A colour that worked with red brick

  • A clean, simple update

  • A durable path that would last

What We Built

This project included:

  • Full removal of the existing concrete walkway

  • New path built with Unilock Copthorne in Burgundy Red

  • Herringbone pattern installation

  • Copthorne Basalt border for contrast

  • Proper base preparation with geotextile, crush run, and limestone screenings

The existing garden edging stayed in place, so no additional edging was needed.

Materials Used

We used high quality materials to create a clean, long lasting finish.

  • Unilock Copthorne in Burgundy Red (herringbone field)

  • Unilock Copthorne in Basalt (border)

  • Geotextile 270R

  • Crush run and limestone screenings

How We Built It

We removed the old concrete walkway and installed geotextile 270R to stabilize the base. A proper foundation of crush run and limestone screenings was added and compacted every 2 inches for strength. The Copthorne pavers were laid in a herringbone pattern using Burgundy Red for the main field and Basalt for the border. The project took two days to complete.

Final Result

The new walkway feels warm, classic, and perfectly suited to the home. The Burgundy Red herringbone pattern adds character, while the Basalt border creates a clean frame that ties everything together. It is a simple update that made a big difference in the overall curb appeal.
