Humbermede, North York
This Humbermede backyard needed a simple and modern upgrade that would clean up the space and create a clear path to the shed. The grass around the area was old, patchy and filled with debris, and the homeowner wanted a fresh start with a cleaner, more intentional layout. We installed a stepping stone walkway using Blu Grande Smooth HD2 in Shale Grey, added crushed black granite for contrast that matched their black shed, replaced the surrounding grass with fresh sod and finished everything with black aluminum garden edging for a crisp separation from the lawn. The entire project was completed in one day and transformed the yard into a tidy, low maintenance space.
Before and Goals
Before we started, the backyard had no defined path leading to the shed. The grass was worn down, uneven and full of old debris, which made the space look messy and unmaintained. The homeowner wanted a simple cleanup that would make the yard look fresh, modern and easy to care for.
The homeowners wanted:
A clean stepping stone path to the shed
A modern look that matched their black shed
Low maintenance materials
Fresh sod to replace the old, damaged grass
A quick one‑day upgrade that made the yard feel organized and intentional
Even though the project was small, we bring the same level of care and detail to every job. No project is too small when it helps improve a homeowner’s outdoor space.
What We Built
This project included:
Installation of stepping stones using Blu Grande Smooth HD2 in Shale Grey
Crushed black granite placed between each stepping stone
Replacement of old, patchy grass with fresh sod
Black aluminum garden edging installed to separate the walkway from the lawn
Standard compacted base under each stone for long term stability
A clean, modern path that ties into the black shed
Materials Used
We used durable, modern materials to create a clean and long lasting walkway.
Blu Grande Smooth HD2 in Shale Grey
Crushed black granite
Black aluminum garden edging
Fresh sod
Compacted base materials
Geotextile filter cloth where needed for weed control
How We Built It
We began by removing the old grass, debris and worn‑out areas around the shed. Fresh sod was installed to immediately clean up the space and create a healthy lawn. The stepping stone path was laid out and each Blu Grande Smooth HD2 slab was set on a compacted base to prevent shifting.
Crushed black granite was added between the stones to create a modern contrast that matched the homeowner’s black shed. To keep the walkway separated from the lawn, we installed black aluminum garden edging along both sides. This keeps the granite contained and maintains a crisp separation between the path and the grass.
The entire project was completed in one day.
Final Result
The backyard now has a clean and modern stepping stone walkway that leads directly to the shed. The combination of Shale Grey stone, black granite and aluminum edging gives the yard a fresh, polished look. The new sod and clean edges make the space feel organized and well cared for. A small project that made a big improvement in both appearance and function.
